Tallahassee’s WFSU: Florida Democratic US Senator Bill Nelson files lawsuit against the DNC over state’s primary date

Suggested host intro: Florida’s presidential primary is still causing contention . . . the Democratic National Committee doesn’t like its early date, so Democratic Senator Bill Nelson filed a lawsuit against the DNC. Matt Laslo reports from Capitol Hill. 

NARR: The lawsuit is retaliation against the DNC for stripping the Florida Democratic Party of all its delegates in the upcoming presidential primary. Nelson claims the DNC is violating the constitutional rights of four million Florida voters. He says he is confident the case will be ruled in Florida’s favor.

The lawsuit also claims the DNC is disenfranchising minority voters because more than seventy percent of African Americans in Florida are Democrats. The DNC claims Florida is in violation of party rules because the state legislature moved the primary vote earlier than DNC rules allow.
