WMUK: DSCC cuts ads against State Children’s Health Insurance program opponent Tim Walberg

Suggested host intro: Tipton Republican Congressman Tim Walberg is being targeted by Democrats for voting against a State Children’s Health Insurance program. Matt Laslo reports from Capitol Hill.

NARR: The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee released radio ads aimed at eight vulnerable Republicans who voted against the children’s insurance bill.

WALBERG AD :10 “With the State Children’s Health Insurance program – S-Chip – about to expire, Congressman Walberg has a choice to make: Continue to stand with President Bush or with American children.”

Walberg sees it differently. He says he supports the children’s health insurance program, but that he voted against the Democrats’ version because it expands the program to include illegal immigrants and young adults.

WALBERG :10 “The reality is the Democrats want to continue to push for vetoes so they can use them for political preferences and not for the children and that is why I voted the way I have.”

To override a presidential veto needs a two-thirds majority . . . so Democrats will need to convince about fifteen House Republicans to switch their votes to get that.

For WMUK, I’m Matt Laslo on Capitol Hill.
